Quick facts
Riverside South is Ottawa's newest large-scale planned suburb, in Gloucester-South Nepean Ward just southwest of Macdonald-Cartier International Airport and east of the Rideau River. The first homes went up on former farmland in 1996, and the built-up area now runs along River Road, Earl Armstrong Road and west of Limebank Road — 19,802 residents at the 2021 census, with the City projecting about 24,920 by 2034 as building continues. Richcraft, Urbandale and HN Homes put up most of it: two-storey detached singles, bungalows, townhomes and low-rise condos. The earliest phases are approaching thirty years old now, so basement finishes, bathroom and kitchen refits, deck and landscaping tear-outs and move-out cleanouts make up most of the bin work. In January 2025 the community got its first rail link, when Limebank Station opened as the O-Train Line 2 southern terminus at Limebank and Earl Armstrong Roads.
Almost every house here has its own paved driveway and an attached garage, so the bin sits on the property and no City permit is involved — a 10–14-yard walk-in handles a room or a basement, a 20-yard a full renovation. The exceptions are the stacked-town and condo blocks, where parking is shared visitor spaces and the bin may have to go on the street, which has to be arranged with the City before delivery. Self-haul loads go to the City's Trail Waste Facility Landfill at 4475 Trail Road, the closer of Ottawa's two public sites from the south end.

As an entirely post-1996 suburb, Riverside South is close to all-driveway, and a bin kept on your own property needs no permit. Stacked-town and condominium blocks with shared visitor parking are the exception: putting the bin on a City street, boulevard or sidewalk calls for a Temporary Construction-Related Encroachment (TCE) permit from Ottawa's Right-of-Way office first, at a $101 Simple-permit application fee plus a per-day occupancy rental with a $41 daily minimum. Arrange it before the delivery date and check current fees with the City.
Questions
For a house with a driveway, no — the bin stays on your own property. If you are in a stacked town or a condo block with shared parking and it has to go on the street or boulevard, the City of Ottawa requires a Temporary Construction-Related Encroachment permit first ($101 for a Simple permit plus a per-day occupancy rental), arranged ahead of the delivery date.
Most jobs here land on a 14-yard — a finished basement, a bathroom refit, a garage and deck clearout on a standard lot. Step up to a 20-yard for a full renovation or a whole-house move-out; a 10-yard suits a single-room job. An operator can size it once they know what is coming out.
