Renting a dumpster in Manotick? Long private driveways are the rule in this Rideau River mill village 25 km south of downtown, so the bin almost always stays on the property — only the old Main Street strip runs tight. Get matched with local operators for a free, no-obligation quote.

Quick facts
The village grew up through the 1850s and 1860s around the stone grist mill Moss Kent Dickinson and Joseph Merrill Currier built at Long Island Locks on the Rideau. It became a police village in 1903, joined Rideau Township in 1974 and the City of Ottawa in 2001, and still counted only 5,315 residents at the 2021 census. That mill — Watson's Mill — is still water-powered, still stone-grinds flour in the village core, and opens to the public seasonally from spring through fall, with milling demonstrations on Sunday afternoons.
Beyond the heritage core, Rideau-Jock Ward around Manotick is rural-residential and estate lots plus newer planned pockets such as the Mahogany waterfront and golf-course community, and the bin work follows the property type: estate-home renovations, outbuilding and yard clearouts, basements and kitchens. There is room to spare on those lots — the driveway takes a 14- or 20-yard roll-off and the truck has turning space, with no City permit involved. The 19th and early-20th-century homes along Main, Bridge and Mill Streets are the tighter case, where short frontages on a working commercial strip sometimes leave the street as the only option. For self-haul trips, the City's Trail Waste Facility Landfill at 4475 Trail Road is the nearer of Ottawa's two public sites from the south end.

A bin kept entirely on your own driveway needs no permit, which covers nearly every Manotick job given the size of the lots. Street, boulevard or sidewalk placement — most likely in the old Main Street core — requires a City of Ottawa Temporary Construction-Related Encroachment (TCE) permit first: $101 for a Simple permit covering up to 10 working days, plus a per-day surface occupancy rental of $0.87 per m² on a boulevard or $2.02 per m² on a sidewalk or roadway, with a $41 daily minimum. Confirm current fees with the City before you book.
Questions
Almost never. Lots here are big and the driveway takes the bin, which the City asks nothing for. It is only when the bin has to sit on the road, boulevard or sidewalk — mostly a Main Street-core situation — that you need a City of Ottawa Temporary Construction-Related Encroachment permit, at $101 for a Simple permit plus a per-day occupancy rental.
A 10-yard is enough for a room-by-room declutter. Estate-lot yard and outbuilding clearouts, and full renovations of an older village home, usually take a 14- or 20-yard, and there is generally driveway length for one. An operator can confirm once they know the job.
