Bin rental in a growing river town
LaSalle is not a Windsor neighbourhood. It is its own Essex County municipality, with a council, a Public Works department and a fee schedule of its own, and at 32,721 people in the 2021 census it is larger than most Ontario places that still call themselves towns. French settlement along this stretch of the Detroit River is as old as Windsor's own, and the old riverside hamlet of River Canard is still part of the town's makeup, but the shape of the place today comes from its run as a fast-growing bedroom community on Windsor's south-west flank — subdivision after subdivision, and the renovation and clearout work that follows a decade or two later. Supply crosses the line from Windsor: several of the city's operators name LaSalle directly in their own service-area copy, running the full 8 to 40-yard range. The price bands shown here are the Windsor ones for exactly that reason — it is one operator pool on both sides of the boundary.
Town property, permits and drop-off
Windsor's hoarding permit stops at the town line, and LaSalle runs its own process instead. The Town's Public Works department issues a Right-of-Way Permit, applied for online, for work on or use of Town property — its own description covers driveway work, landscaping that reaches into the right-of-way, and access to or occupation of Town land — which leaves a bin kept wholly on your driveway outside what the permit regulates. What LaSalle does not publish is a temporary-container rate: the current User Fee By-law 2025-007 lists encroachment charges aimed at permanent structures in the right-of-way (application $55, reinstatement $82.50, termination or release $220, a full encroachment agreement $825), with no per-day or per-linear-foot boulevard occupancy line of the kind Windsor has. If your bin has to sit on the road or boulevard, call LaSalle Public Works on (519) 969-4143 and ask what applies before you book delivery. The Town has no depot of its own: residents are directed to the EWSWA Public Drop Off Depot at 3560 North Service Road East in Windsor for household loads, while the Essex-Windsor Regional Landfill on County Road 18 in Essex takes commercial hauls.
