Quick facts
Bounded by Countryside Dr, Bovaird Dr, Heart Lake Rd and Airport Rd, Springdale was planned in the 1980s and began building in 1991, marketed as a $5 billion, 22,000-home "town within a city" meant to hold about 75,000 people by 2005 and laid out as eight sub-neighbourhoods themed to geography — mountains, tundra, grasslands — which is where the street names come from. It was populous enough to carry its own federal riding, Brampton—Springdale, from 2004 to 2015. Building ran mostly through the 1990s: detached homes on 30, 40 and 50-ft frontages alongside semis, townhomes and duplexes with Neo-Colonial and Tudor Revival detailing, stock now old enough that kitchens, bathrooms, basements and roofs come up on a steady cycle.
All of it was laid over Stanley's Mills, an 1820s milling hamlet that by 1860 had three mills, a wagon shop, a blacksmith, a tailor, an inn, a store and a Methodist church; its last standing trace is a designated circa-1860 Gothic Revival brick house at 10416 Airport Rd, with the Elliott farmhouse (c.1865) and homestead (1876) still on Torbram Rd. Everything around them is 1990s suburb: double-wide driveways on most detached lots, where a 14- or 20-yard bin drops straight onto the property, and tighter frontages on the semis and townhomes, where a 10-yard is the safer fit. Peel's Brampton Community Recycling Centre on Chrysler Drive is the nearer of the region's two Brampton drop-offs for household loads from here, with the Heart Lake centre on Railside Drive the alternative across town.

Most Springdale detached homes have a double-wide driveway, and a bin kept entirely on private property needs no permit at all. It is the narrower semi and townhome frontages where a larger bin may not fit off-street: putting one on a City road or boulevard means a City of Brampton Road Occupancy and Access Permit, requested from roa.permits@brampton.ca with a traffic control plan checklist and proof of insurance. Brampton's 2026 User Fees By-law sets a $600 Road Occupancy and Access Permit administration fee (up from $450), plus a security deposit set case by case, so check the current deposit amount and any other requirements with the City, and ask your operator about placement.
Questions
Not on your own driveway, and most detached homes here have a double-wide one. The permit case is a semi or townhome frontage too tight for the bin: on a City road or boulevard, Brampton requires a Road Occupancy and Access Permit first, applied for through roa.permits@brampton.ca. The City charges a $600 permit administration fee plus a security deposit set case by case, so ask it what applies to your placement.
A 10-yard handles a bathroom or a single-room clear-out; the kitchen, basement and roof work that comes with thirty-year-old housing usually takes a 14-yard, and a full renovation a 20-yard where the driveway allows. Your operator can size it once they know the job and the frontage.
