Quick facts
The name comes from Heart Lake Conservation Area: 169 hectares (418 acres) of TRCA land holding the lake itself, the headwaters of Spring Creek, wetland over a fifth of the site and forest over nearly half — one of the largest continuous forest blocks in the whole Etobicoke Creek watershed. The conservation authority's predecessor bought the first 63 hectares in 1956 and opened the park to the public in 1957, adding land through to 1982. Housing arrived around it in two waves: ranch-style bungalows and Tudor Revival houses on larger premium lots in the 1970s and 80s, notably along Conservation Park Dr, then brick-and-stone detached homes with double garages and single-garage semis in the late 1990s and early 2000s.
Both eras keep the bin on-property. The bungalow-era lots are generous enough for a 20-yard roll-off, while the newer detached and semi stock was built with a garage and a driveway to match, which suits a 10- or 14-yard walk-in for the kitchen, bathroom and basement work that dominates here — older houses at gut-renovation age push that up a size. Street placement, and the City permit that comes with it, is the exception rather than the routine. Peel's Heart Lake Community Recycling Centre on Railside Drive is the closer of the region's two Brampton drop-offs for household loads, with its Chrysler Drive centre the alternative across town.

Neither of Heart Lake's housing eras usually forces a bin onto the road, and on private property — driveway included — no permit applies. Where the road or boulevard is the only option, the City of Brampton requires a Road Occupancy and Access Permit issued before the bin arrives, with a traffic control plan checklist and a certificate of insurance submitted to roa.permits@brampton.ca. Brampton's 2026 User Fees By-law sets a $600 Road Occupancy and Access Permit administration fee (up from $450), plus a security deposit set case by case, so confirm the current deposit amount and any other requirements with the City.
Questions
No — placement on private property is permit-free, and both the bungalow-era lots and the newer detached and semi driveways have the room. Only a bin on the City road or boulevard needs Brampton's Road Occupancy and Access Permit, with a traffic control plan and insurance certificate; the City charges a $600 permit administration fee plus a security deposit set case by case, so confirm the current amount with it.
The 1970s and 80s bungalows on the larger lots are at gut-renovation age, and those jobs generally want a 20-yard; a kitchen, bathroom or basement in the newer stock is comfortable in a 10- or 14-yard. Operators will confirm against the debris type and weight.
