Dumpster rental along Riverside Drive

Riverside was incorporated as its own town in 1921 and joined Windsor on January 1, 1966. It still reads as a strip: Riverside Drive follows the Detroit River from about Westminster Boulevard east to the Windsor-Tecumseh town line, a drainage ditch just past the Rendezvous Shores property. Beside it runs the Ganatchio Trail, 8 km of paved multi-use path — the original 5.2 km plus a 3.25 km Rotary extension — linking Lauzon Road to the town line by way of Sandpoint Beach and Stop 26 Beach and Park. The housing splits two ways: older river-facing homes, among them tavern buildings from the Prohibition years when places like the Edgewater Thomas Inn and the Rendezvous drew American visitors across the river, and Rendezvous Shores, a recent infill subdivision of larger new builds on what had been an open grass field and a marine basin at the eastern edge.

Driveways, permits and the run to the depot

Placement is easy here by Windsor standards. Waterfront homes along the drive have their own drives and garages, and the Rendezvous Shores builds sit on standard suburban-width lots with attached garages, so the bin normally stays on the property and the City's hoarding permit never enters the conversation. That permit exists for occupation of the road, boulevard or sidewalk — the right-of-way — and the City's Hoarding page does not speak to placement on your own lot; where one is needed, the Engineering Department's Right-of-Way Division issues it, with a $95-plus-HST minimum. Self-haul, on the other hand, means crossing the city: the EWSWA Public Drop Off Depot at 3560 North Service Road East is the only public drop-off inside Windsor, a fair run from Riverside's far east end, and everything else — the Kingsville depot, the regional landfill in Essex — is farther still.

Permits & local rules

Most Riverside jobs never reach the permit question: homes along Riverside Drive and in Rendezvous Shores have their own driveways, and Windsor's hoarding permit regulates the City right-of-way rather than private ground (the City's Hoarding page is silent on bins kept on your own lot). Where a bin does have to occupy the road, boulevard or sidewalk, the Engineering Department's Right-of-Way Division charges $1 per linear foot per calendar month for boulevard or sidewalk and $1 per square foot per calendar month on the roadway, minimum $95 plus HST, with a $70 monthly inspection fee, a $298 fee where a day closure is required, and insurance and an indemnity deposit on top. Apply ahead of delivery and check current fees with the City.

Questions

Dumpster rental in Riverside — FAQs

Do I need a permit for a dumpster in Riverside?

Usually not. Driveways are the norm on this side of the city, from the older waterfront lots to the newer Rendezvous Shores builds, and Windsor's hoarding permit applies to the City's road, boulevard and sidewalk rather than to your own property. If the bin has to sit on the right-of-way, get the hoarding permit from the Engineering Department's Right-of-Way Division first — it starts at a $95-plus-HST minimum, and the City can confirm the current schedule.

What size bin do Riverside homeowners usually take?

With driveway room available, the load decides rather than the space: 10 to 14 yards for a kitchen, bathroom or basement, 20 yards for a whole-house renovation or clearing out a long-held riverfront home, and 30 or 40-yard roll-offs where there is construction involved. An operator will confirm once they know what is going in.
