Quick facts
Azilda sits about 15 km northwest of downtown Sudbury on Municipal Road 35, widened from two lanes to four to ease the commute into the core. It was part of Rayside Township until the 1973 amalgamation created the Town of Rayside-Balfour, and joined Greater Sudbury in 2001; the dairy and market-garden past along the Vermilion River flats still shows in the lot sizes, and households split roughly evenly between English and French. Older highway-frontage homes mix with postwar-to-1990s subdivision infill, so the work is renovations, garage strip-outs and property clear-outs — a 10- or 14-yard bin, or a 20-yard for a whole-house job.
Space is the local advantage. This is low-density township-and-subdivision housing rather than a dense grid, so the large majority of homes have a driveway long enough to take the bin on the property, and that needs no permit at all. Road-allowance placement is the exception here, mostly on a site with no driveway access. Disposal stays local too — the Azilda Landfill and Waste Diversion Site on Montée Rouleau is in the community itself, a short haul that keeps the disposal side of a quote down.

Keep the bin entirely on private property — an Azilda driveway or yard, which covers nearly every residential job on lots this size — and no permit is needed. To put one in the road allowance (street, sidewalk or boulevard), Greater Sudbury requires a Road Occupancy Permit first: $60 per day at the 2026 rate, applied for through the City's online portal at least five business days ahead, with a traffic-control plan per Ontario Traffic Manual Book 7.
Questions
Not on your own driveway or yard, which covers almost every Azilda job — lots here are wide enough for on-property placement. Only a bin in the road allowance needs Greater Sudbury's Road Occupancy Permit: $60 per day at the 2026 rate, applied for at least five business days ahead.
Kitchen, bathroom, basement and garage clear-outs go in a 10- or 14-yard. A whole-house renovation, a roof tear-off or a build on one of the newer subdivision lots usually calls for a 20-yard, and there is generally driveway room for it. Your operator can size it once they hear what is coming out.
