Renting a dumpster in Hyde Park? London's northwest growth area has only been inside the city since 1992 and was built with attached garages and generous driveways as standard, which makes on-property bin placement the norm rather than the exception. Quick facts
Hyde Park is in one sense older than London: settlers from Cumberland, England arrived in 1818, a school followed around 1840, the Great Western Railway ran a line through in 1852 and a post office opened in 1859. But it stayed a community of its own until annexation in 1992, decades after Byron, Masonville and Wortley Village came into the city — and everything since has been quick. It is one of London's fastest-growing suburbs, filling the ground between Fanshawe Park Road and Sarnia Road from the wooded bog land west of Hyde Park Road across to Aldersbrook Road, built out around the big-box SmartCentre at Hyde Park Road and Fanshawe Park Road West with its Walmart Supercentre, Lowe's and Canadian Tire. The southern edge runs up against Sifton Bog, a 41.6-hectare Environmentally Significant Area whose floating acid-peat bog holds boreal plant life at the edge of the Carolinian zone. Housing is predominantly single-detached from the post-1992 boom, with a growing share of townhouses and some larger apartment buildings as the area intensifies, so the work is finishing basements, first-round kitchen and bathroom updates, deck and fence replacement and landscaping rather than gutting century homes.
Standard-to-wide driveways and attached garages are the practical reason most bin jobs in Hyde Park never reach the permit question at all — a bin entirely on your own property is not the City's business, and there is usually room for a 20-yard beside the car. If one does have to go on the street, sidewalk or boulevard, London requires a Work Approval Permit (Occupancy) from its Public Property Compliance team, applied for ahead of delivery. Drop-off splits two ways from this corner: the Oxford Street EnviroDepot at 1450 Oxford Street West is the closest one actually inside London, while the Clarke Road North EnviroDepot at 21462 Clarke Road is marginally nearer in a straight line but sits just outside the city limits in Middlesex Centre. Both take recyclables, yard waste, electronics and scrap metal.

Hyde Park's post-1992 driveways are wide enough that the bin almost always stays on private property, where no permit is required. Street, sidewalk or boulevard placement is the exception here, and it needs a Work Approval Permit (Occupancy) from London's Public Property Compliance team (streetpermit@london.ca, 519-661-2489 ext. 2848), arranged before the bin is delivered. The City's 2026 fee schedule prices that permit at $300 flat for a boulevard placement of up to six months, or $50 per day for a bin in the travelled road itself. Your operator can advise on where the bin will sit best on a sloped or freshly paved drive.
Questions
Rarely. This is a mostly-1990s-and-later suburb built with wide driveways, so the bin nearly always sits on your own property and no permit applies. Only if it has to go on a City street, sidewalk or boulevard do you need a Work Approval Permit (Occupancy) from Public Property Compliance (streetpermit@london.ca, 519-661-2489 ext. 2848) — the 2026 fee is $300 flat for a boulevard placement (up to six months) or $50 per day for the travelled road.
A basement finish, a kitchen or a bathroom in one of the newer detached homes fits a 10–14-yard bin. Deck and fence tear-outs, landscaping and larger renovations lean toward a 20-yard, and there is generally driveway room for one here. Townhouse and apartment addresses are the exception — check placement with the property manager first. An operator can size it once they know the job.
