Quick facts
Binbrook lies about 17 km south of downtown Hamilton along Upper James Street and Highway 6, cut off from the built-up city by a belt of farm and conservation land — the 396-hectare Binbrook Conservation Area and Lake Niapenco, formed by a dam in 1971, sit on its doorstep. The old crossroads village at Highway 56 and Foreman Road, around the fairgrounds, is only a small part of it now; subdivisions of detached homes have been added around it steadily over the past three decades, with a scatter of older farmhouses on rural-residential lots at the fringes. Most of that stock is now old enough for its first real round of work — basements, kitchens, roof tear-offs, deck rebuilds and yard clearances — and Binbrook keeps selling against Ancaster and Waterdown as the more affordable new-build option, which keeps the finishing and landscaping jobs coming too.
Nearly every house here is post-1990s detached with an attached double garage and a long drive, so on-property placement is the default and the City stays out of it. The older fairgrounds core is the exception worth naming — and that core still sets the local calendar, since the Binbrook Agricultural Society, founded in 1854, runs the Binbrook Fall Fair, whose 173rd edition is scheduled for September 18–20, 2026. If you would rather haul a load yourself, the Mountain Community Recycling Centre at 37 Kilbride Road is the closest of the City's three CRCs, roughly 10 km north up Upper James Street; the Kenora and Dundas CRCs are both considerably farther.

Binbrook's housing stock is overwhelmingly detached with a double garage and a long driveway, so in practice the bin sits on your own property and no City of Hamilton permit applies. The exception is the older village core near the fairgrounds, where a bin may have to occupy the road or sidewalk — that needs a Temporary Lane and Sidewalk Occupancy Permit from the City first, published at $63.55 per 14 days for an unrestricted lane occupancy and $137.60 per 14 days for a sidewalk closure. Confirm current fees with the City before delivery.
Questions
Rarely, because rarely does anyone have to. Driveways here are long and double-width, and a bin on private property needs no permit at all. If a job in the older core near the fairgrounds does force the bin onto the road or sidewalk, the City of Hamilton requires a Temporary Lane and Sidewalk Occupancy Permit first — $63.55 per 14 days for an unrestricted lane occupancy, $137.60 per 14 days for a sidewalk closure — applied for ahead of delivery.
Driveway room is almost never the constraint, so choose on volume alone: 10 or 14 yards for a bathroom, a basement or a garage clear-out, 20 yards for a whole-house renovation or a large landscaping tear-out. That freedom is the difference between here and Hamilton's older neighbourhoods — an operator can confirm the size once they know the job.
